Thank you so much for the book. I'm reading, and enjoying the book. I'm blessed by your heart/God's heart for the hurting and broken, which is most of us, and certainly myself. Thanks for helping the saints.

John,
Your brother Jim asked me to read your book and share my thoughts. Here they are for better or worse. Thank you for caring so much for hurting people. I know this book was the product of your loving and growing relationship with Christ. Please don’t take any criticisms personally. I have no agenda in sharing them other than to honestly communicate my impressions of the book in light of my understanding of God’s Word.
Your friend in Christ,
The Healing of Jabez by John W. Mauck
Reviewed by Pastor Kerry Bauman
“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain." Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain."
And God granted his request.”
1 Chronicles 4:9-10
First, let me say that I really appreciate your sincere efforts to help minister to people in pain. I’m sure that your intentions are very good.
Now, here are a few of my thoughts for what they’re worth:
• It appears that the fundamental problem with the book is that you lump all pains together. So whether it is the pain of rejection, the pain of suffering or the pain of rebellion, your conclusion is that God doesn’t want a believer to go through it.
• While I would agree that He is ready and willing to heal in some cases (for example—for those who have suffered emotionally at the hands of others, God brings healing by giving them a new identity in Christ), when it comes to other kinds of pain, God doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to bring relief.
• The Apostle Paul experienced an affliction that he called a ‘thorn in the flesh.’ We know that God did not remove it lest he would have become conceited (See 2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Instead our Lord chose to work through Paul’s ailment so that his boasting would be in Christ alone.
• Further you mentioned that Jesus prayed, “…if it is possible may this cup be taken from me,” but what you fail to mention is that the Father did not take it away. It was through the pain of the cross, that the Son was able to bring glory to the Father. Of course this begs the question, “What does this mean for the believer who is told that he will be delivered from pain, when Jesus was not?”
• Also, do not assume that Jesus wanted to avoid all pain (pg 58). He not only resolved to go to Calvary (See Matthew 16:21) and in the process brought pain upon Himself, but He often inflicted it on others by challenging their distorted belief systems (See Matthew 16:23—to assume that Christ’s words did not hurt Peter is to overlook the obvious). It was C.S. Lewis who said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
• Another example is the life experience of Job. If we ask the question, “Why did Job suffer?” it seems to me that the primary reason was because it brought greater glory to God by proving to Satan that Job would not curse Him even if every blessing was removed. If I could summarize the main theme of this book it would be: Man exists to glorify God. If our suffering will bring Him more glory, than, say, physical or financial healing, then this is His will for us.
• To say that we can produce our own healing provides the reader with the notion that God can be manipulated if we will but follow the six steps. Ephesians 1:11 tells us that God does everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, not ours.
• Lastly, while it may be possible that Jabez foreshadows Christ, that is a strong assertion to make given that he is only mentioned in two verses in the entire Bible.

Thank you for the awesome study Bible and a copy of your awesome book “The Healing.” I am always desiring something to read, and especially something life changing to read along with my Bible. So your book really filled a void. In fact, since it is not a long book, I’m just reading one chapter a day to extract all I can from the book. After I finish reading the book, I will share it with as many as I can trust who will return the book to me. I’m sure there are others like me who are looking for wholeness, but they need the absolute truth to be healed. Thank you for the revelation that it is not independence I need, but total dependence on God.
God certainly has invested so much wisdom in you. You are definitely a model Christian Brother that I have a lot of respect and admiration for. I’m so thankful for all your demonstrated Christian love towards me.

Dear John,
While I was out of town when you were at my home Church, AWIM, I heard of the wonderful time in God everyone had. Anyone that believes the Word of God, when it says: "..and signs shall follow them that believe.", would receive what they needed. You brought the Word, and signs followed, and those that believed, got what they expected. The sign, is the Spirit coming upon us, and yielded vessels, cannot stand against that power.
I love the book, Pastor blessed me with a copy. Thank you for obeying the Spirit and putting it down in writing. We all need healing in one form or another. God bless you.

John.
While I have only once experienced being slain in the spirit personally, I have had people I’ve been praying for have that experience. It happened while I was a member of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Evanston. We experienced a season of renewal during a conference and for several months after that. Through our pastoral staff’s teaching we learned that this was biblical and not an unusual experience throughout church history. The test for us was the result it had in the lives of the people that experienced it. How had it changed them. We knew it was of God because our lives became more godly in many different ways. For some it was a renewed desire for holiness, for others some form of healing, yet for others it was a release into or empowerment for ministry. For many people it had nothing to do with the message that was preached at the conference or in the weeks to come. For us it was a spiritual renewal for our community.
Blessing to you.

I am thrilled to hear of your experience with people being "slain in the Spirit" Having been in the "charismatic" movement, I have personally encountered this in many meetings for many years, and see it often overseas in third world countries. I believe God does touch many people this way and it is a great blessing. However, I do not think we should use these manifestations as a confirmation or endorsement of the truth of a particular teaching. In fact, in my experience, those whom the Lord uses for healing and other "power" manifestations often are not called to be teachers and will teach out of their personal experience which, many times, is "off base", even unscriptural. I believe God will often overlook such teaching and still demonstrate his power through the speaker simply because it is important that people get healed. This is not always true, of course, but I sometimes wish those who walk in these giftings would stay in their giftings and avoid teaching if God has not called them to that. The Word of God is our standard, of course, amd those who teach should be deeply immersed in the Scriptures. Too many teachings travel too far down a "subjective experience" road and lose their way. Of course, I am not saying anything about what you taught. I am sure it was excellent.
My opinion, anyway.

Thank you for the copy of "The Healing of Jabez". I believe that this book is just as important as "The Prayer of Jabez". Dysfunction is so evident in our society and no one seems to have any answers. It is impossible to get through this life without being wounded in some way. Most people take these wounds to the grave and never receive the healing that only God through the Holy Spirit can heal. Healing is not just a ritual that is received by praying the prayer of Jabez but it takes more guidance from His word and again allow the Holy Spirit to heal wounded relationships.
Love the book

John,
I appreciated and felt honored to be invited to the coming out meeting and book signing of "The Healing of Jabez". After reading it I reflected on my own pain, memories of which remain with me today. The Lord in His infinite wisdom used it to motivate me in a positive way. I look on it as another adversity that has drawn me even closer to the Lord.

John,
Very well done! This book should go well as an aid to self-understanding.
Thanks

I fully intend to be a small or larger blessing to you and your brother - the book is God's gold - God's antibiotic - God's cure for arthritis and cancer and all those biggees that man cannot find a cure for - the Word of God is life and that is exactly what John Mauck penned on those pages - life.

I attended the inagaraul presentation of the book, The Healing of Jabez, and brought with me 3 other individuals, in addition to myself, who have endured pain and suffering during their lives. Three of us were already believers Christ Jesus and have enjoyed the healing powers of the Lord while the fourth individual is not quite there yet.
All four of us have read John Mauck's God-inspired book about the healing of Jabez as well as many other people referenced in the book. To a person the four of us have greatly benefitted from the godly wisdom shared in John's Jabez book. We encourage anyone who is in pain for whatever reason to read this wonderful perscription for a less painful life.
The four of us are praying that you too will be blest by God with a healing experience.
God's Peace be with each and every person who reads this note of encouragement.

I am waiting for my preview copy of The Healing of Jabez and already just reading the information on the site I am convinced that my life and those in the ministry God called me to will be changed - blessed. Even Mr. Mauck's countenance holds the shekinah glory of the Lord. I can hardly wait and even though my finances are such I can't buy them to get them in the hands of people which is what I do best I can at least get a head start on "pain of foreclosure" because unless I see a miracle then I no I won't go there - I am trusting God to place the funds in my hand. I will serve Him either way - He is not Santa Claus to me - but He is JEHOVAH JIRREH and will honor our faithfulness. What a God we serve - why He is the same God of Jabez. Thank you Mr Mauck I can hardly wait.
A God lover
I was blessed today with an opportunity to ask for God's healing of a deep hurt from the past. I wasn't expecting this today. I was invited to attend John Mauck's presentation of his book and in a moment of prayer, John asked us to bring a specific hurt before God for healing. I like to avoid fist fights, car accidents and other things that cause great pain, but I allowed myself to humbly lay this old scar before the Lord. In that moment, I experienced a peace about that experience that could only be God-given.
I'm not healed, but I am convinced your book will help a lot of people.
God bless.
